Selection criteria
What to establish before choosing an adhesive
Start with both parts, the condition of their surfaces and the load on the joint. Then define the application method, the time available for positioning and fixturing, and the operating conditions. A one component adhesive may cure through atmospheric moisture; a two component acrylic adhesive instead requires both components to be processed. Chemistry, component count and curing mechanism are separate selection criteria.

SELECT BY APPLICATION
From adhesive system to a sound selection
Whether an adhesive suits your joint depends on the parts, their surfaces and operating conditions. Three Bond 1533 is a moisture curing, one component elastic adhesive. 3M Scotch-Weld DP8005 is a two component acrylic structural adhesive for substrates including low surface energy plastics. Surface preparation, open time, fixturing and full cure must therefore be checked for each product. Sealing and potting tasks also require their own functional assessment.
Tell us the parts, surfaces, loads and production sequence. Krückemeyer GmbH can help you narrow down the appropriate product group. Use the advisory form on this page for questions about adhesive technology.

QUESTIONS ABOUT ADHESIVE SELECTION
How do one component and two component industrial adhesives differ?
The number of components first describes how the adhesive is supplied and processed; it does not by itself define its chemistry or strength. Three Bond 1533 is a one component adhesive based on a silane terminated polymer and cures through atmospheric moisture. 3M Scotch-Weld DP8005 is a two component acrylic structural adhesive. For each product, assess mixing or application, working time and curing separately. The choice depends on your substrates and production process.
What information is needed to select an industrial adhesive?
Provide both parts and their actual surfaces, joint geometry, structural load and operating conditions. Application, positioning, fixturing and the point at which the joint must carry a load also matter. Product documents distinguish, for example, moisture curing systems from two component structural adhesives. Describe the specific application so that adhesive chemistry and process can be assessed together.
Can an industrial adhesive also be used for sealing or potting?
Only when the specific product is intended for that function. Three Bond 1533 is described for bonding as well as sealing and potting; these remain different tasks. A seal requires assessment of joint geometry and media exposure. Potting requires consideration of the components and intended protective function. A bonded joint is assessed by substrates and load. Define the required function before selecting a product.
When can an industrial adhesive joint be loaded?
The timing depends on the product and cannot be inferred from the number of components. For moisture curing Three Bond 1533, skin formation and through cure depend in part on layer thickness, ambient temperature and humidity. For two component systems, working time, fixturing and full cure are also separate specifications. Assess the relevant product documents together with the actual joint when planning your production cycle.
